Novice Category:
For beginners only
After 3 novice wins, you advance to main IOTW
Voting & Winners:
Voting: Wed 8:00 AM – Fri 9:30 PM ET

File Requirements:
Resolution: 72 ppi
Size: 1200 × 800 max
Format: WEBP only
Submission Info:
Must be your own image (no rental scopes)
Include target name + equipment used
Contest Flow:
🖼️ IOTW winners → automatically entered for Image of the Month
🌙 IOTM winners → automatically entered for Image of the Year
🌌 IOTY winner + most IOTW wins = special prizes
Entry Period (Monthly): Opens Friday at 10:00 PM ET and closes Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET.
Format Requirements (effective July 15, 2023):
Resolution: 72 ppi
Max Size: 1200 × 800
File Type: WEBP
Conversion tools: Free options (e.g., PixInsight, Adobe Photoshop, or online WEBP converters) are widely available.
Submission Details:
Images must be your own work using your own equipment 👉 (no rental scopes).
Include a brief description with:
Target/star catalog designation
Imaging equipment used
Image of the Month (IOTM) – How It Works
This is the only contest you submit your images to.
All entries for the month compete directly in the Image of the Month contest.
The winning image is revealed on the 3rd Friday of each month during the live show.
Each photographer may win one Image of the Month per contest year.
Tie Rule: In case of a tie, both images will be featured side by side.
Single Entry Rule: If there is only one monthly entry, it automatically advances.
Image of the Year (IOTY):
All monthly winners are automatically entered.
Announced on the 3rd Wednesday of January.
Novice Category (added Aug 2, 2024):
For beginners new to astrophotography.

All Image of the Month winners are featured in the AstroWorld Annual Photo Calendar.
The Top 3 winners of Image of the Year get special placements:
🥇 1st Place: Featured on the cover of the calendar.
🥈 2nd & 3rd Place: Each may choose their preferred month to showcase their winning image.
🎁 Prizes:
The IOTY Winner and the member with the most IOTM wins each year will receive special prizes.
